This seminar is designed to expose students to the constant preoccupations of the Chief Executive of a corporation and senior colleagues to maximize the long range growth of revenues and profits. Students will explore the process of providing strategic direction for the multi-business corporation through acquisitions, divestitures, and internal Entrepreneurship. The management of the corporate Portfolio of business units is also concerned with the diversity of corporate cultures and management philosophies, and the effective integration of businesses to leverage competitive advantages and the development of core competencies. Students will investigate and analyze corporate development activities at specific companies, and make class presentations on how these actions are affecting the firm's strategic direction in today's business climate. Students will be encouraged to use a creative mind in the class activities to analyze corporate actions, successes and failures, strategy effectiveness, and an evaluation of company bottom line results, in view of corporate strategic objectives as influenced by their corporate development programs.
