What is the difference between the IMBA Full-time and Executive tracks?
The ISM IMBA Full-time program is designed for younger managers with approximately 0-4 years of professional experience. This program is to be completed over nine months of full time study in Paris, and an intensive two-week session in New York but can be spread out over an 18-month period including the thesis. The IMBA Executive program is tailored to more experienced professionals with approximately 3-5 years of professional experience. IEMBA students can participate in seminars in Paris, New York, Shanghai, New Delhi, São Paulo, and Cape Town at no additional tuition fees. Furthermore, a portion of the IEMBA program can be completed via e-learning. The IMBA Executive program is designed to be completed over a two-year period.
What is the difference between the DBA and PhD programs?
The DBA program is a generalist multi-disciplinary program designed for experienced business professionals who have already obtained a Masters Degree and would like to bolster their careers with an additional advanced degree in Business Administration. The PhD program is designed for business practitioners transitioning into business school educators and those who would like to pursue a career in academia. The PhD at ISM is a two-step doctorate program with the first step focused on the practical side of business (DBA) and the second step focused on the theoretical/research side (PhD). PhD students may choose from among four possible tracks: generalist, specialization in finance, specialization in entrepreneurship & innovation, and a specialization in higher education. There is no specialization in the DBA.
What is the average class size for master's and doctoral seminars?
In order to optimize our classroom learning environment, each seminar is limited to a maximum of 25 students. On average, each seminar will have between 15-25 students.
Is it possible to register for one course?
Yes, non-ISM students are eligible to register for individual courses and 2-week programs (at all locations), as part of the international executive certificate program. See more information on our International Executive Certificates Program section.
How do I fulfill the PhD teaching requirement?
PhD students may validate the teaching requirement at institutions other than ISM; however, a formal evaluation must be submitted to the Academic Director of the PhD program in order to receive credit for courses taught. Otherwise, PhD students may seek a teaching opportunity through ISM’s external programs.
Are students required to move to Paris in order to complete their program?
The majority of the IMBA Full-time students reside in Paris, as the program is full-time and designed to be completed over nine months to one year in Paris. However, the three-day intensive seminars are normally scheduled every other week, which allows the students to continue working while completing their studies. Very few IEMBA, DBA and PhD students move to Paris full time since the programs can be completed on a part time basis. Instead, many of these students choose to come to Paris uniquely to attend the three day intensive seminars, which are usually held Thursday to Saturday, in order to minimize time away from professional activities. Additionally, almost all of these students take seminars at other locations such as New York, Shanghai, New Delhi, São Paulo, or Cape Town.
Is it required to take seminars in Paris, New York, Shanghai, New Delhi, São Paulo, or Cape Town?
The programs are designed to be flexible. Students can fulfill their classroom requirements through study in Paris, New York, Shanghai, New Delhi, São Paulo, and/or Cape Town; it is not necessary to takes classes in each city. The Paris seminars are typically scheduled at least once a month from September to June. In New York City, multiple sessions are held every summer. Additionally, another two-week programs are conducted every year in locations such as Shanghai, New Delhi, São Paulo, and/or Cape Town. ISM is the only business school that provides students with the opportunity to study in Paris, New York, Shanghai, New Delhi , São Paulo, and/or Cape Town at no additional tuition fees.
