ISM in Cape Town: University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business
Cape Town is the second-most populous city in South Africa and the seat of the National Parliament. In addition to being famous for its natural settings and several well-known landmarks, Cape Town is the economic hub of the Western Cape Province, South Africa’s second main economic center. It is one of the leading cities in Africa for successful Information Technology companies and has a particularly dynamic small business sector.
ISM partners with the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business (GSB), providing the opportunity for students to take courses in international business with a focus on Africa and the emerging markets context. The University of Cape Town is South Africa’s oldest institution of higher education; the UCT Graduate School of Business was established in 1966 and is today widely ranked as the top business school in Africa.
The GSB is known for its continuous pursuit of excellence and high quality of faculty and education; the school takes a four-pronged approach to excellence that combines academic rigor, societal relevance, innovation in teaching, and thought leadership to transform its students. One of GSB’s principal areas of focus is emerging markets. The GSB defines emerging regions or organizations as those which experience high degrees of growth, uncertainty, complexity, and often, excessive inequality; GSB believes that this paradigm is relevant not only for emerging countries or regions, but equally for companies operating in or encountering these conditions. The GSB is dedicated to equipping leaders and managers operating in such contexts with the relevant skills and know-how to be effective in this demanding environment and its teaching is therefore highly contextual, soliciting both collaboration and creativity in order to foster new ways of thinking. The program offered in cooperation with the International School of Management will help students to gain great insights into African business practices and emerging markets.
Seminars include: Doing Business in Africa, Values Based Leadership and Sustainable Performance, Marketing in Emerging Markets, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
